Amazing Japanese Classics – Hyakunin Isshu & The Tale of Genji

2021年01月30日(土) - 2021年04月11日(日)

Masterpieces of Japanese painting linked to waka poetry and poems, as if depicting the world of the Hyakunin Isshu, or One Hundred Poems.
The exhibition also features a folding screen related to The Tale of Genji, associated with Murasaki Shikibu, one of the poets chosen for the Hyakunin Isshu (one hundred poets, one poem each).
Enjoy the collaboration between a fascinating part of aristocratic culture that has transcended millennia and modern and early modern painters.

Ill-Starred Painters

2020年10月24日(土) - 2021年01月11日(月)

Saga Arashiyama Museum of Arts and Culture holds a joint exhibition with Fukuda Art Museum focusing on the various types of painters who suffered from the "ill-starred" fate; some died an untimely death, others did not receive proper evaluation by the public, and etc.
In this museum, we mainly select those painters whose names are forgotten now although their talent was highly evaluated at that time.
We introduce you to a variety of unknown masterpieces.
