As you know, Arashiyama, where SAMAC is located, attracts so many travelers. In Japan traveling became common in 17th century Edo period. Many beautiful landscapes across Japan was called "Meisho" or sightseeing spots where ordinary people like us adored to visit.
"The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō" by Utagawa Hiroshige became very popular for his innovative way of
drawing those spots.
In this exhibition we exhibit original prints of all 53 stations from the 1st period to 2nd period. In addition, you can see 18th-19th century Japanese paintings about Meisho, such as "Three Beautiful Women by the Sumida River" by Katsushika Hokusai and a gorgeous "views in and around the city of Kyoto" folding screen.
Let's travel across Japan together through ages!
