When it comes to the paintings of Edo era (1603 - 1868), you should not miss these two great artists of Kyoto, Maruyama Ōkyo and his subordinate Nagasawa Rosetsu.
We exhibit their various works including this cute dogs drawings, hoping anyone can enjoy their fabulous artworks.

On 23 February 2020, the competitive karuta tournament ‘The First Chihayafuru Ogurayama Cup’ will be held at the museum. To commemorate the tournament, we are holding a special exhibition 'THE Hyakunin Isshu - - One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each' in the hope that the fascination of the culture of Hyakunin Isshu will once again be widely known.

Nowadays Arashiyama, home of the Saga Arashiyama Museum of Arts and Culture, welcomes large numbers of visitors every year; it was during the Edo period (1600-1868) that ordinary Japanese people first had the opportunity to travel for leisure. Beautiful locations in each region became famous as 'scenic spots' that everyone wanted to visit. Now Let’s stop the clock for a while and visit some of these famous scenic spots through Ukiyoe.
