Overview of the Exhibition

Just as living flower-and-bird gardens were created for visitors to interact with released birds, in its 'kachofugetsu' theme, Saga Arashiyama Bird & Flower ZGarden was created to transmit to young and old a traditional Japanese sense of nature.

The characters ka-cho-fu-getsu literally mean flower-bird-wind-moon. Thus combined, the word is an elegant way of referring to beautiful natural scenery. painters have striven since the prehistoric origin of art to give form to beauty. Flower-and-bird painting arose out of this impulse.

To make it easy to imagine you are in a traditional bird and flower garden, this how also adds sound, another dimension, to kachoga flower-and-bird painting. Enjoy kachofugetsu natural beauty in an extensive exhibition of paintings by artists working during the Edo period (ended 1868) and early modern period. Along with finely rendered plants, see waterfowl, adorable small birds, sleek birds of prey, and more.

Wishing more families visit us during summer vacation, admission for elementary school students (under 13) will be free in August.
In addition, we set up "Lively Tuesday," a day when visitors are allowed to talk, but not in a whisper, so that they can enjoy the artworks without hesitation.

(Although the museum does not prohibit conversations in the exhibition rooms, we ask for your cooperation in viewing the exhibits as quietly as possible so as not to inconvenience other visitors.)
