The first large-scale retrospective exhibition of Hashimoto Kansetsu’s work in Kyoto, held jointly with the HAKUSASONSO HASHIMOTO KANSETSU GARDEN & MUSEUM KYOTO and the Saga Arashiyama Museum of Arts & Culture.
In our galleries, you can see works by Hashimoto Kansetsu
(1883–1945), one of the greatest masters of Japanese painting. Kansetsu was a master who, while inheriting the traditions of the early modern period, incorporated modernity and perfected a unique, elegant and magnificent artistic world.
To celebrate the 140th anniversary of his birth, this comprehensive exhibition is concurrently being held at three sites: HAKUSA-SONSO HASHIMOTO KANSETSU GARDEN & MUSEUM KYOTO, Fukuda Art Museum, and here at Saga Arashiyama Museum of Art and Culture. The show provides the unprecedented opportunity to view a grand total of as many as 150 works by Kansetsu.
The secondary site in Arashiyama, Saga Arashiyama Museum of Art and Culture presents, among a total of 40 works, Kanteki, from the collection of HAKUSASONSO HASHIMOTO KANSETSU GARDEN & MUSEUM, which is the source of most of the exhibits, and Gull Among the Waves on loan from Kyoto Municipal Museum of School History.
