The 6th Chihayafuru Ogurayama Cup, an all-star Ogura Hyakunin Isshu competitive karuta tournament where the world of competitive karuta as seen in manga and film can be experienced, will be held on 23 February 2025 (Sunday).
The Chihayafuru Ogurayama Cup was created in 2025 with the concept of introducing the 'joy of watching' Ogura Hyakunin Isshu competitive karuta, and this will be its fifth anniversary.
The manga Chihayafuru (written by Yuki Suetsugu, published by Kodansha) is a popular work that has also been made into an anime and a film and has caused a social phenomenon. Chihayafuru has also led to the popularity of competitive karuta, especially among the younger generation, and many people have become interested in watching competitive karuta.
In order to make it easier for people who are new to competitive karuta to understand and enjoy the sport, this year's competition will be held at the venue where visitors can experience the power and tension of the game, as well as at public viewing venues where they can enjoy the game casually and with commentary.
For those fans who cannot make it to the venue, a public viewing venue will be set up in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. In addition, the competition will also be live-streamed on YouTube.
For details, please refer to the Chihayafuru Ogurayama Cup website (Japanese only).
