(Birth and death dates unknown)He served as a poet to the court of Emperor Shomu. He was particularly noted for his poems expressing the beauty of natural scenery. He is included amongst the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets.

田子の浦の海岸に出て、はるか向こうを仰いで見ると、神々しいばかりの真っ白な富士山の頂に、今もしきりに雪は降り続いているよ。
Approaching the shores of the Tago-no-ura, I look to the horizon to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji, swathed in mystical white. Snow keeps falling at its glorious summit.
